Submission Guidelines

Want to tell us about that really great book you've just read? Simply email admin at
gretchenleebourquin.com. The Mixed Bag Review seeks book reviews under 1000 words,
(preferably around 500) or as queries. We accept reviews of both Independent/Self
Published books as well as traditionally published. As long as the review writer holds rights
to their review, we are happy to repost reviews that appear elsewhere in order to help
maximize exposure for the author.

Reviews should include the title of the book, the author, the publisher (may be the same as
author) and information on how to buy the book. Please submit via the body of the email
with the word "Review" in the subject line. Attachments will not be opened without
prior approval. I will hold up to 12 reviews on the site at a time, keeping the most recent.

Payment -- Can't do it, sorry. But I will help you try to get other people to pay you. Every
review will include a link of the author's choosing (provided it's a safe, clean place). It can
go back to your blog, a place to buy your book, a personal website, etc. Wherever you feel
will be most effective.

Note to Authors: Initially I was trying to provide a service of reviewing books myself,
and unfortunately this does not fit my schedule on any regular basis. While I enjoy writing
an occasional book review, promising to review any individual authors simply cuts into my
personal writing time too much. You're welcome to suggest your book for review, but I
may not get to it. If you know of people who have already reviewed your work fill free to
encourage them to submit it to The Mixed Bag Review. As long as the author of the review
holds legal rights to the review we have nothing against republishing work that has
appeared elsewhere. If another magazine requests that their name be mentioned as part
of any reprints we are more than happy to oblige. The Internet is a big place. We can share.

To Submit Your Own Book for Review

Any author, whether traditionally published, or independently published (self-published) is welcome
to request one of my reviews to be published in The Mixed Bag Review. It is my personal goal to
review 1-2 solicited books a month. You cannot review your own book, but you are welcome to
work with your own network of fellow writers to persuade them to submit a review per the Submit
a Completed Book Review instructions below

If you want me to do review your book please follow these directions

1. Send me an email to admin at gretchenleebourquin dot com. Include the words Review
Request in the subject line.

2. In the body of the email include your book title along with the genre where it best fits. ( If I were
to submit my novel it would be No Sensible People ; Fiction, Literary/Mainstream)

3. If there is a preview available of your book online, please include a link. If this not available,
please include a 1 page excerpt (about 300 words) in the body of the email. This is your query.

4. If your query is accepted I will contact you regarding specifics on how to get me a copy of your
book. My prefence is for PDF files, as it is cheaper to exchange than actual hard copies of books.

5. If it's not accepted, don't take it too personally. It is my goal to have 12 active reviews on the site
striking a balance between genres and independent and traditional publishers. Poetry, for example is
common and may be a tougher sell.

6. Failure to follow directions may cause your submission to summoned to the dreaded
spam folder and to eventually be released back into the black hole of cyberspace. Do not
let this happen to you!
