It's All So Sudden!
A couple weeks ago I started taking a class at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, called "The Writing Habit"-- the goal of the class is to ease our way back into being the writer we want to be. We write down writing and selfcare goals that are realistic to our life styles and strive to have met our weekly goals to report back to the class. I made most of mine the first week.
I decided I was on a pretty good roll on the writing end of things, so I should start submitting again. I'm collecting more markets for short fiction and poetry which I will be posting soon on the links page. Yeah-- I know it's still a pretty sorry looking links page. Then I got an email that offered be a free ISBN from Lulu.com where I had printed, but not distributed my novel. It was a limited time thing, and I decided to jump on it. Now I am faced with the challenge of marketing a self-published novel. Unless you have a signifigant pre-existing celebrity marketing first novels is pretty difficult no matter what you do. As with any success, though, it often depends on who you know. So I am trying to get to know the right people and move up the food chain in the literary community. Ideas are swirling! I still want to produce at least four quality short pieces this week, two short stories, a review, and an essay. So for the rest of today, the marketing links are out and I will try not to follow them anymore today. I'll go hang out with my daughter for a while, get out of the house, then go back to being creative again. It is all a little scary, but I have agood feeling about it. 2008-06-27 18:11:09 GMT
